Power cables used for transmitting and distributing electrical energy

Power cables are cables used for transmitting and distributing electrical energy, widely used in urban underground power grids, power station outgoing lines, internal power supply of industrial and mining enterprises, and underwater transmission lines crossing rivers and seas. In power lines, the proportion of cables is gradually increasing, becoming an important product for transmitting and distributing high-power electrical energy in the backbone lines of the power system. Power cables include various voltage levels of 1-500kV and above, various insulated power cables, which have been in use for a hundred years and are mainly classified according to voltage levels. ‌12

The basic structure of power cables includes conductor, insulation layer, filling layer, steel strip layer, and sheath layer from the inside out. Conductors are usually made of excellent conductive metals such as copper or aluminum, and are used to transport current. The insulation layer is wrapped around the conductor to prevent current from coming into contact with the external environment, usually using insulation materials such as polyethylene (PE) and cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). The sheath layer is located outside the metal sheath and is used to protect the cable from external environmental damage. It is usually made of materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyethylene (PE).

VV cable is a commonly used type of power cable, fully known as copper core conductor PVC insulated and PVC sheathed power cable. Its rated voltage is generally 0.6/1KV or below 35kV, the working temperature does not exceed 70 ℃ for a long time, and the laying temperature is not lower than 0 ℃. VV cable has been widely used in many fields due to its relatively low price, although its overall performance is not as good as YJV cable and it is gradually being replaced by it.

The implementation standards for power cables usually follow national standards such as GB/T 12706.1-2008 to ensure the safety and performance stability of the products. Power cables play an irreplaceable role in the field of power transmission and supply, and are an indispensable and important component of modern power systems.
